When you think of summer the first things that come to mind are sun, sea, beach. And of course palm trees! After a short brainstorming session we quickly agreed: Gran Canaria is the perfect location to shoot our new summer collection!
The Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean has everything you would expect from a tropical island and immediately puts you in summer moods. The island is a popular destination among cyclists and we soon found out why. For example, the roads are perfectly maintained and the beautiful mountains offer enough challenge for cyclists of any level.
The team consisted as always of our regular photographer Wouter Roosenboom, videographer Thom Loohuis and the four models: Nol, Marcel, Richelle and Roos. Marketers Jason, Diede and Lonneke and product designer Michael from Rogelli made sure everything went smoothly. And we succeeded! We shot beautiful content and were surprised by all the beauty that the diverse landscape of Gran Canaria has to offer.
With the whole team we stayed in a villa in the mountains on the southern coast of the island. From there we drove to the various locations where the photos and videos were shot. The best light for photos and videos is there at sunrise and sunset: the famous Golden Hour. That meant getting up early and long days. But it was worth it!
The pool at the villa was especially loved by the models. A refreshing dip after a long day! The temperatures on Gran Canaria are standard above 20 degrees celcius. So a little coolness was more than welcome. Especially when you have to cycle up the same mountain 10 times for the perfect photo.
During a shoot we are always on the move a lot. It is important to create as diverse content as possible in different locations. The advantage of Gran Canaria was that the island is relatively small, so we didn't have to travel very long distances. That's an advantage, because: the less travel time, the more time to take pictures and videos! Fortunately, the Spanish island has more than enough photogenic locations to choose from. From rugged mountain peaks to beautiful nature, and from cozy villages to tropical beaches.
A special location was Mirador del Balcón. This viewpoint high in the mountains offers beautiful views of the north coast of the island. While the rest of the team drove up in the bus, Nol was willing to take on the challenge and cycled up. Respect! Fortunately, we always have enough water and food in the bus so he could regain his strength afterwards.

Wie denkt aan zomer denkt als snel aan zon, zee, strand. En natuurlijk palmbomen! Na een korte brainstorm-sessie waren we er al snel uit: Gran Canaria is de perfecte locatie om onze nieuwe zomercollectie te shooten!
Het Spaanse eiland in de Atlantische Oceaan heeft alles wat je van een tropisch eiland verwacht en brengt je direct in zomerse sferen. Het eiland is een geliefde bestemming onder wielrenners en we kwamen er al snel achter waarom. De wegen zijn bijvoorbeeld perfect onderhouden en de prachtige bergen bieden genoeg uitdaging voor fietsers van elk niveau.
Het team bestond zoals altijd uit onze vaste fotograaf Wouter Roosenboom, videograaf Thom Loohuis en de vier modellen: Nol, Marcel, Richelle en Roos. De marketeers Jason, Diede en Lonneke en product designer Michael van Rogelli zorgden ervoor dat alles in goede banen werd geleid. En dat is gelukt! We hebben prachtige content geschoten en ons laten verrassen door al het moois dat het diverse landschap van Gran Canaria te bieden heeft.
Met het hele team verbleven we in een villa in de bergen aan de zuidelijke kust van het eiland. Vanaf deze plek reden we naar de verschillende locaties waar de foto’s en video’s geschoten werden. Het mooiste licht voor foto’s en video’s is er bij zonsopkomst en zonsondergang: het welbekende Golden Hour. Dat bekende dus vroeg uit de veren en lange dagen. Maar het was het waard!
Het zwembad bij de villa was vooral onder de modellen geliefd. Een verfrissende duik na een lange dag!
Tijdens een shoot ben je altijd veel onderweg. Het is belangrijk om zo divers mogelijke content te maken op verschillende locaties. Het voordeel van Gran Canaria was dat het eiland relatief klein is, waardoor we niet hele lange afstanden hoefden af te leggen. Dat is een voordeel, want hoe minder reistijd, hoe meer tijd om foto’s en video’s te maken! En gelukkig heeft het Spaanse eiland meer dan genoeg fotogenieke locaties om uit te kiezen. Van ruige bergtoppen tot prachtige natuur, en van gezellige dorpjes tot tropische standen.
Een bijzondere locatie was Mirador del Balcón. Dit uitzichtpunt hoog in de bergen biedt prachtig uitzicht over de noordkust van het eiland. Waar de rest van het team in de bus naar boven reed, wilde Nol de uitdaging wel aangaan en is hij naar boven gefietst. Respect! Gelukkig hebben we altijd voldoende water en eten mee in de bus zodat hij daarna weer even op krachten kon komen.

Nol (29): "To be honest, I thought beforehand that Gran Canaria was a tourist resort with simple mega-resorts. But that expectation was completely dashed right from the first morning. Super rugged nature, beautiful beaches and very good roads. I am definitely going back soon!
I found the shoot - again - very pleasant. It really feels like a week with good friends on the road, where between the fun also super nice images are made. I was again very impressed with the logistics of it all. Shooting 100+ sets on an island next to Africa is no mean feat. And the fact that it all ran so smoothly is very impressive!"
Roos (21): "I thought the shoot in Gran Canaria was an incredibly fun experience! I didn't know anyone beforehand so that is always a bit exciting, but I am extremely happy with this fun experience. It was also a super cozy and nice team to work with where I made new friends!
Furthermore, I really enjoyed trying on all the different clothing sets. This way you can feel exactly which set you like the most and want to buy in the future. In short: I am a fan!"
Nol (29): "Eerlijk gezegd dacht ik van tevoren dat Gran Canaria een toeristenoord was met simpele mega-resorts. Maar die verwachting werd al meteen de eerste ochtend volledig teniet gedaan. Super ruige natuur, mooie stranden en hele goede wegen. Ik ga sowieso snel terug!
De shoot vond ik – wederom - erg gezellig. Het voelt echt als een week met goede vrienden op pad, waarbij tussen het lol maken door ook super mooie beelden gemaakt worden. Ik was weer erg onder de indruk van de logistieke operatie eromheen. Even 100+ setjes schieten op een eiland naast Afrika is niet niks. En dat het dan toch zo gestroomlijnd loopt is erg knap!"
Roos (21): "Ik vond de shoot in Gran Canaria een onwijs leuke ervaring! Ik kende van tevoren niemand dus dat is altijd een beetje spannend maar ik ben ontzettend blij met deze leuke ervaring. Het was ook een super gezellig en fijn team om mee te werken waarbij ik nieuwe vrienden heb gemaakt!
Verder vond ik het heel leuk om alle verschillende kledingsets te passen. Zo voel je precies aan welk setje je het lekkerste vindt zitten en in de toekomst wilt aanschaffen. Kort samengevat: ik ben fan!"
Richelle (28): "I began this adventure without having the slightest idea what to expect. I set off for a week with nine strangers to an island in the Atlantic Ocean for a bike shoot. I quickly noticed that these nine strangers were very open and spontaneous people with the same passion for cycling and adventure.
I really enjoyed the cycling, the crew and the beautiful island. We were taken to the most beautiful places in Gran Canaria. I couldn't believe my eyes! I ride for pleasure and I can say that all the climbs and descents were intense.
Although the days were sometimes long, they flew by and I secretly experienced this opportunity as a vacation. I was able to carry out my passion with wonderful people in a sunny place."
Marcel (52): "Some are active cyclists and act as models, others photograph or film it and capture it on film. Still others work for Rogelli itself, designing the products or doing the marketing. But we all share the same passion: cycling.
I'd been to Gran Canaria before, years ago, but didn't get beyond the pool and the beach. Now, as a cyclist, I got to know a completely different island.
I also learned a lot, for example how to take into account the light so that you are always in the right position for the photographer and videographer. It's funny to see that as the week progresses you start doing more and more things automatically. It was a really nice team to go on the road with for a week!"
Richelle (28): "Ik begon dit avontuur zonder ook maar enig idee te hebben wat mij te wachten stond. Ik ging een week met negen vreemden op pad naar een eiland in de Atlantische Oceaan voor een fietsshoot. Al snel merkte ik dat deze negen vreemden hele open en spontane mensen waren met dezelfde passie voor fietsen en avontuur.
Ik heb echt genoten van het fietsen, de crew en het prachtige eiland waar we werden meegenomen naar de mooiste plekjes op Gran Canaria. Ik keek mijn ogen uit! Fietsen doe ik voor mijn plezier en ik kan dan ook zeggen dat alle klimmetjes en afdalingen intens genieten waren.
Ondanks dat de dagen soms lang waren, vlogen ze voorbij en heb ik deze kans stiekem als vakantie ervaren. Ik heb namelijk mijn passie uit kunnen voeren met prachtige mensen op een zonnig oord."
Marcel (52): "De één is actief fietser en fungeert als model, de ander fotografeert of filmt het en legt het vast op de gevoelige plaat. Weer anderen werken voor Rogelli zelf en ontwerpen de producten of doen de marketing. Maar allemaal delen we dezelfde passie: fietsen.
Ik was wel eens eerder op Gran Canaria geweest, jaren geleden, maar ben toen niet verder gekomen dat het zwembad en het strand. Als fietser heb ik nu een compleet ander eiland leren kennen.
Ook heb ik eigenlijk best veel geleerd; bijvoorbeeld hoe je rekening moet houden met het licht zodat je altijd goed in beeld bent voor de fotograaf en videograaf. Grappig om te zien dat je naarmate de week vordert steeds meer dingen automatisch begint te doen. Het was echt een heel leuk team om een week mee op pad te gaan!"
